The Blowing Rock Lodge is a custom house of approximately 6000 square feet featuring an incredible variety of indoor and outdoor spaces with some of the most inspiring views in North America. The owners originally approached us with a program for over 7500 square feet and an extremely steep and delicate site.

We negotiated the program down and proposed a plan to design a house that looks as if it had evolved over time; the central Lodge structure anchors the entire design with thoughtful, but uniquely detailed "additions". This approach allows the mass of the house to stay somewhat more in scale with its' mountain setting. Of all the homes we have designed (250 and counting), we have received more comment on this one than any other.
