The Orr Cottage at Warren Wilson College is a truly remarkable building. Within the rustic design is one of the most efficient buildings in North America. The Orr Cottage is one of a few Gold Level Certified Buildings of the rigorous LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the United States Green Building Council. This is the first LEED Certified Building in Western North Carolina, the second Gold Certified building in all of North Carolina, and the first college or university building in North Carolina to achieve Gold Status. Of the many environmental features are a super-efficient geo-thermal heat pump, local wood and stone used on the exterior and interior, beautiful recycled antique doors and water efficient features.
